How to run a TIME assessment workshop

A TIME assessment workshop is a facilitated session where business stakeholders score their own applications — and every application lands in a TIME quadrant with a PAID action behind it. This guide runs the whole practice in five run books.

Four-step application rationalization methodology: 1. Inventory and initiation, 2. Evaluate business and technical fit, 3. Map to a TIME quadrant (Tolerate, Invest, Modernize, Eliminate), 4. Strategic roadmap

The four-step methodology. (The artifact labels the vertical axis "Technology Fit"; the product calls this dimension Tech Health, and the TIME chart's axis reads Tech Fit — one dimension, canon name Technical Health.) Full TIME definitions — the TIME framework.

The workshop agenda, on one card

Print this section and put it on the table.

First 10 min Frame the session: the quadrant, the 1-5 scale, "score the application, not the team." One-Pager on the table.
15-20 min per app Walk the 10 Business Factors with the owner. Score live in GetInSync. Watch the placement land on App Health.
Throughout Disagreements resolve by re-reading the written 1-5 descriptions — not by adjectives. Capture data gaps as they surface.
Last 10 min Review the populated quadrant together. Name what surprised the room. Confirm the follow-ups and the next session.

Common questions

How long does a TIME assessment take?
A pilot with one or two business units typically completes in a few weeks: inventory takes one to two weeks of elapsed time, Technical Health scoring a working session per support team, and each Business Fit Workshop runs 1.5-4 hours for 5-12 applications. Most teams see their first populated quadrant in the first workshop.
Who needs to be in the workshop?
An IT facilitator, the application owners for the applications being scored, and the people who use those systems daily. Executive sponsors attend the 30-minute intro meeting; they're optional in the scoring session itself.
Why is Technical Health scored before the workshop?
So the business sees their applications land on the TIME quadrant live as they score Business Fit. With the technical half already in place, every completed application finds its quadrant in real time — that moment is what makes the discipline stick.
What do we need before starting?
A GetInSync workspace, a reasonable application inventory (perfect coverage is not required), and one or two willing business units. The Workshop Kit provides the handouts: the scoring question sets, the intent-to-meet email template, and the stakeholder one-pager.
